St. Peter’s Hospital and the NHS

In this constituency, our NHS district general hospital is St. Peter’s Hospital. Originally built to serve casualties of WW2, St. Peter’s has been much developed over the years to provide the main acute services for the boroughs of Woking, Runnymede, Spelthorne and the western part of Elmbridge.

I hold regular meetings with the hospital management team and frequently campaign on St. Peter’s behalf, lobbying the Department of Health to address issues such as staff availability and shortages of qualified nurses, as well as being a part of the ongoing reorganisation of mental health services in North West Surrey.

I also support the proposals, announced in 2014, to merge St. Peter’s with the Royal Surrey County Hospital, and he is closely monitoring the progress of the project. Talks are ongoing as the boards of both hospital trusts draw up plans for a new, sustainable organisation.

A number of public meetings have been held across the county throughout February and March 2016 to inform this process, and I shall remain updated on new developments.
