Brooklands Budget

I am delighted that Brooklands Museum, a local landmark and the birthplace of British motorsport and aviation, has received £1 million from the Government’s Libor funding.

Announced in the 2016 Budget, this award will fill the funding gap for the museum’s £8 million regeneration project to restore the Brooklands Aircraft Factory, which will include re-opening its famous Grade II listed Aircraft Hanger, and its Race Track Revival project.

I have always taken a close interest in the development of Brooklands Museum and, when director Allan Winn told me about the potential delays in progressing with these projects because of the increase in building costs, I was glad to be able to offer to approach the Chancellor of the Exchequer to explore whether the project could be supported with Libor funding.

I am pleased that the exceptional importance of the museum has been recognised in this way and that this fantastic restoration project can now go ahead.
